Prototype Motors

Here are pictures of some of the prototype motors that we've built. We had a lot to learn! The earliest prototypes were built with huge ring magnets providing the magnetic field. They worked, however, we had a hard time coming up with a mechanical suspension system that could handle the extreme forces that the motor could generate without it eventually breaking. The latest prototype is rectangular for easier manufacturing and we finally figured out how to build a suspension that wouldn't break. That's an accomplishment considering the 200 G force required to get the speed that the motor is capable of.
